Universities are increasingly interested in finding ways to bring renewable energy to power their campus. Universities, and particularly public universities, have certain qualities that make this effort a unique challenge. Using the University of Utah as an example, we will examine the barriers and opportunities to deploying renewable energy on campuses. We believe that the lessons learned from our experiences can better inform strategic planning and decisions about how universities will meet their renewable energy goals in the coming years.
